Black Lives Matter

June 6, 2020

Dear Live Life Music followers,

We stand in solidarity with the Black community and express our unwavering support for the fight against racism, police brutality, and injustice. We are deeply saddened by the murder of George Floyd, and by the lack of justice for Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, and the thousands of other Black Americans who have been brutally betrayed by policemen who never faced punishment.

Live Life Music’s mission statement is “to serve and nurture the fine arts in underprivileged communities of Oklahoma through music-related initiatives.” With the high costs of instruments, lessons, music, and accessories, classical music is inherently privileged. Since the day it was founded, Live Life Music has made its primary goal to do its best to address this issue. However, we can still do better. We understand that we have much room for improvement in listening, educating ourselves and others of our privilege, and using that privilege to lift up historically disenfranchised and underprivileged communities. We also recognize our lack of racial diversity and will take immediate action on this issue within the next few months. This is our responsibility, and we strive to fulfill it.

We also urge our followers to take action: to not only be non-racist, but to be actively anti-racist. Please join us in signing petitions for justice and reform, donating to organizations that can make a difference in policy, healthcare, politics, education, or direct community investment, and protesting the systemic racism injustice that has built up over centuries. Now is no time for silence.

Please know that we are listening and will always be listening. If you would like to share your thoughts or suggestions with us, please email us at livelifemusicok@gmail.com.

Sincerely,
